This past week was slammer. In so many ways. Asides form FINALLY being off work and able to hang with my sister, we had 2 Christmas Dinner parties to go to (both our aunties), and seeing friends that have yet to meet Iris in person (because they are from my associates) as well friends that just want to hang because both of us are finally here!

For starters, everything from our Staff Christmas Party at the NCC, to the Dojo Party, to the dinner parties were great. So many laughs and jokes it’s hard to keep count.

NCC Staff Party at Mandarin! )

Dojo Party )

Christmas at Aunties )

So right now I’m working away at many, MANY different things. I’m excited because last night I had asked if someone on the other side could do me a favor and send me an image I can draw up for my next postcard in the Anishinabe style. And low and behold, last night me and my sister helped a spider, and I think the little dud returned the favor- because I got the image last night, and it was accompanied by a spider. SO THANK YOU MR. SPIDER!

I’m off to finish up some work! Cutting my stencil for my shirt! WOO!

This is the game I was talking about, a little while ago, where you skied down a slope, and the yeti would eat you at the end.

(Skied looks wrong? Skiied?)

OH NO AVOID THE YETI!

Who else remembers?

Christmas Day )

Boxing Day )

Hope everyone else had a good christmas!

Lucas took his fat stacks of Hydro Cash in hand and completely spoiled everyone in the family this Christmas, so I'm currently in the process of leveling up my sweet PS3 graphic'd Dragon Age gypsy elf. I was trying to make a beefy black guy elf because I like how it contrasts with EVERY STANDARD OF ELFISHNESS EVER, but I didn't like their dreadlock look and basically ended up making a big native guy. I should try to hook him up with the blond manwhore elf, it'll be like the Legolas/Turok fanfiction I know everybody's always wanted to see.

Oh lawd, this thing is supposed to have over 100 hours of gameplay. I'll miss you guys.

Other Christmas highlights, dad gave me some monies to put towards the laptop fund, and my mom found the coolest plush zombie I have ever seen. Seriously, look at that, you can rip him in half and he has little ribbon guts that hold him together. I am also returning with a magical relic of my people from the heart of our homeland to bind you all in spells of awe and wonder. The week's been pretty solidly booked up with people to see and things to do, so I've been out visiting family friends probably ever day since I've gotten here, make the most of the week, yanno'.

Went out sledding for the first time in yeeeeeeeears today, nothing makes you realize just how out of shape you are quite like running up a hill for two and a half hours. But it was great, we started with five people and ended with something closer to twenty, had a fire going, roasted marshmallows and drank tea. Luke rigged up a busted up old couch on some crazy carpets and actually managed to get it down the hill once without tipping the whole setup. Later we had a couple people over for dinner and managed to snag more over the course of the night until we ended up with four or five more in our fellowship by the time we made it to dessert.

One more night and then it's off to Winnipeg on Monday evening and Toronto Tuesday morning, and we already have plans for it. Between all the nibbly Christmas treats I've been munching around the house and all the big dinners we've been invited out to, I don't think I've even thought about feeling hungry since I got back. I'm gonna have to like, fast for a week after I leave just to digest everything.

All in all, pretty rad Christmas. I kinda miss the Sheridan way of doing the holidays where you get like, a month off, I'mma miss everyone when the week's over.

Still trying to convince Luke to adventure out to Toronto later this year, tho ;P

Oddly, there are less people online and posting today- on boxing day, then yesterday- on Christmas.
Huh.

Just to let everyone know- I'm 3/5 postcards done for my first set of postcards featuring "less popular" animals in North West Pacific Indigenous art. So far, the list includes- Lynx, Bat/moon, Seal, Fox, and Raven.

Yes, I know, Raven IS a popular one, but he wanted in. And I'm not about to say no to someone who can seriously f-up my life. XD

I am thinking of removing Fox to put Wolverine instead- but my sister suggested that next set around, I can add both my Manitou and my Helper... and I kinda like that idea. :)

Oh, and I forgot to post yesterday:

Last night, my sisters went of to their respective significant other's houses for their family Christmas. My grandma and parents and I watched Julie & Julia, a really great movie that I'm going to have to buy. It's so refreshing to see relationships that somehow feel honest. Like people weren't characters, but rather people in situations reacting to them. Highly recommended, and now I also have to watch some of Julia Child's cooking show.

Cut to save some flists. )

[info]roman_cement, here's the part you will like. I got series' three and four of Doctor Who! We'll need to watch some. Need to.

I also realised that Space is TOTALLY broadcasting part two of End of Time on the second, which isn't too too late.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE (^v^)

Rudy bought me a little handheld video camera for Christmas so i've been making videos ever since. it records at 720p which isn't s bad for my first video camera. i need to buy a big SD card for it tho because he couldn't afford to buy me one, which is perfectly alright since it was amazingly nice of him to even buy me a video camera.  i've just emptied off the internal memory right now and i'm going to take some video of my Mum's dog Tuppence playing fetch in the park.

BTW i went to see Avatar with Rudy and my brother last Sunday and it was FREAKING AWESOME!
i want a nice statue or figure of Jake and/or Neytiri

the entire movie was beautiful beyond comprehension. wouldn't it be crazy to cosplay as a Na'vi? this lady i work with has a daughter that's mega into movie makeup, hair and prosthetic design. i wonder if i could pay her to do my up for FanExpo next year? *mind is racing*

i'm definitely going to see it in IMAX 3D when i get back to Oakville.

It being Christmas Eve and all, I was thinking of this Christmas story and drew it up. I meant to draw it nicer, but didn't get time.  It's about family.

under the cut, because it's big )

If it helps to understand it better, I am the second oldest of four girls.

Merry Christmas, everyone! To you and yours.

Flight was pretty good, though it was the longest four hour flight *ever* because I was so exhausted. I wound up staying up all night the night before, so I could catch a cab to the airport at 4AM with [info]marii_chan so we could split the fare. My flight, by the way, was at 8:10. D:

First one to the gate!! I had my choice of chairs, so I grabbed one near an outlet so I could use my computer, and I watched 'The Silver Nemesis' which is a seventh Doctor serial.

And it was.. Well... Not great. There was too much running around, and not enough *doing* things. Spoilers for the serial, if you care. )

WOW THAT WAS LONG. On to the rest of my day?

Fell asleep at the airport, on my bags. Fell asleep on the plane, but I dont' know for how long! No watch yet. So the plane trip seemed to take *forever*.

Finally, we landed. Went to meet my family and pick up my luggage but... They weren't there!! Mom had apparently checked online, where it said that my flight was twenty minutes late. So they were ready for that! It was okay though, I figured that traffic was bad or something.

Went to IKEA, then we went home and had naps.

We also picked up my grandma from my cousin's, where my aunt and uncle drove to. It is usually a 45 minute drive, but the road conditions were so bad that it took us about two hours! We were doing 6km/h on the *yellowhead*, which was 80km/h in that spot! Bumper to bumper traffic. Coming back was much better.

I've also made my ugly sweater. I will post pictures, it is *fantastic*. Fantastic. I will win the competition, I am sure!!

Spent some time with [info]fly_girl and friends, where we played the Harry Potter scene it (girls vs. guys, GIRLS WON!!), and then the cranium I had bought [info]fly_girl and her husband for their wedding. It was really fun! I was partnered up with [info]fly_girl's husband, and WE WON!!

HA.

Also have watched the muppet christmas carol now, and it was just as great as ever. Grandma really enjoyed it. Tonight I am going to midnight mass with my sister, and we are also going to watch Julie and Julia, which I've wanted to see.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS everyone, Merry Christmas and all of that!! Hope the weather is good where you are. It's beautiful here right now! Lots of SNOW!!

Moving form outfits to staging- this is the first batch of stage concepts that bring out the ethnic cultural concepts using simply colors and symbols of said culture.

I think my haircut may be exactly how I want it, which is both cool that he got it bang-on, but kind of sad that it'll have to grow out and stop being awesome. It's buzzed on the back of my neck but still kinda nose-lenth-ish in the front with a side part. Feels good to be rid of those five inches of fluff on the back of my neck, plus now I could probably be a convincing fat catwoman cosplayer.

Speaking of which, I should probably stop cramming goldfish crackers into my face consistently.

Just jumping the bandwagon that [info]moonvoice was wheeling along a few days ago:

I got a "Your prices are too much" comment this morning for an image that I was clearly under-pricing because the commissioner was a teenager, and I wanted to go "easy" on her funds.

So let's see... she basically wanted me to work for less than... 3 dollars and hour. On an image that it's style took me... over 7 years to achieve, countless hours to learn the cultural significances, and priceless emotional values to the relations I had forged and broken during the learning of it.

Because clearly, this is something I can just doodle out in two seconds while I'm waiting for the snow to melt because I have no need to pay my bills or feed myself.

Honestly.

Third concept. NWP style- oh yah!
I'm not sure anyone reads this journal anymore.. so that's why I haven't bothered posting comments about the work, but rather let people read them in the body of the art since it seems only DA gets some feedback.
Pity, because I wanted to use LJ to advertise the set of postcards I have coming up for sale.. but I doubt that'll work on the long run?

A Scottish cartoon, since I am back home for the holidays.

I'm well acquainted with the tune "Lord Lovat's Lament," since you hear it around these parts every time anyone has to pick up a fiddle and learn something. But you know, it's one of those tunes you know so well, you pay no attention to it, it's just there in the back of your head.

Then one day, I was looking up a bunch of works by Hogarth (the best) and came upon this portrait of 'Lord Lovat'. The lovely old tune and that devily face, they didn't match. So I wanted to learn more about him!

Lovat (Simon Fraser, born 1697 - there are about a million Simon Fraser Lord Lovats) really epitomizes how reading Scottish history can make you want to tear your eyeballs out, or laugh because it's nearly a farce it's so nutty. Either the people involved are disastrously loyal, or disastrously duplicitous. Everything is a disaster, but it's a hell of a ride.

I'll talk to you all from the other side of the country tomorrow. Or later on tonight, if there's free internet at the airport. I don't think there is though, only in Vancouver.

Had [info]sajex's party yesterday. We missed Cora's, which made me really sad, but we were making a sweet cake. Pictures of that later.

Saw the Princess and the Frog, which was good. It wasn't the Lion King, or Beauty and the Beast, but it was good. thar be spoilers. )

And I also have to go to the library!!

~~X~~

Okay, pretty much packed now, checked in to my flight, my little Christmas tree out... Okay. I think I'm good for now. :D

Anyone else remember the CG music video YTV used to play, waa-ay back when? The one with the green walnuts that made the 'waaa-ow' sound. I'd love to find that again.

And in my quest for that, I found out that apparently YTV used to show some cool stuff:

Yeah! Apparently!

~~X~~

Oh. My. God. I found it.

OHHH YEAH. Now I'm going to go and watch the other Short Circuit ones.

Also? Amazing news? [info]pirate_squid GOT ME THE NEW STAR TREK MOVIE. STAR TREK MOVIE.

Sorry Mom and Dad if you already grabbed that for me. D: STAR TREK MOVIE.

Okay, seriously. I will go and start my laundry, so I can pack to go home. Then I will start doing what I have to finish, also to pack. THEN maybe I'll start cutting other stuff out. D:

I'm PROCRASTINATING. Gah. I just want to curl up into a little ball under a blanket and get warm. Stupid heater doesn't seem to be on, even though I just *turned it up*.

Also! I should mention that [info]robocluck has been over the past couple of days, and it was *awesome* to see her again. We watched Jem! And we FINALLY got to the Stingers. Check this out. Seriously. Stingers. The shit.

The best part about this ENTIRE thing is that we can see that the Stingers are lipsynching and not playing their instruments, because they *jump off the stage* during this song. Also the hands that come in around the frame, at about 1:03 on. How tall are these people? Where are they standing??

Also, may I present this fanart that [info]pirate_squid drew? I must emphasise that this is *a line from the show*. We all laughed forever.
